"The name of our program is very appropriate." said clinical liaison Dr. John Williamson. "This patient population needs relief from physical pain as well as relief from the pain of addiction. They need someone to listen to them and to treat them with dignity and compassion, both of which are cornerstones of our program."

Healthcare Providers & Relief and Recovery
Healthcare Provider
Foundations' Relief and Recovery program is a compassionate and effective assessment and treatment program for chronic pain patients with co-occurring addictions. Recent research suggests that up to one in four chronic pain patients also struggle with addiction; however, when these patients begin to show signs of addiction they are very difficult to assess and treat appropriately. It is at this point that many patients begin to violate their medication contracts and are discharged from their physician's practice.
The goal of Foundations' Relief and Recovery program is to work as a strategic partner with each provider to ultimately return the patient back to the referent's practice. Our clinical liaison will work directly with each provider to gather initial referral information and to communicate patient progress effectively throughout the assessment and/or treatment process.
Assessment
Once a referral is made, the patient is assigned to our assessment coordinator, who will provide them with step by step instructions to guide them through the assessment process. Our assessment coordinator also works with the patient's family and friends to collect collateral information necessary for us to complete a thorough and fair evaluation of the patient's pain and substance use disorder potential. Upon completion of the assessment, our treatment team will meet with the patient and family to go over the results of the assessment. A complete written report will be provided to the referent as well, with recommendations based on assessment findings.
Treatment
We offer a treatment component to our Relief and Recovery program for those patients meeting criteria for chronic pain with substance use disorder. Patients entering the treatment component of Relief and Recovery participate in Foundations Tier III (link to Tier III page) level of care, with additional treatment components specific to the chronic pain patient.
Ambulatory Detox
Foundations Atlanta also offers ambulatory detoxification services for patients entering our program.
We also offer detoxification service for patients preparing for an interventional pain procedure, such as a spinal cord stimulator or an indwelling pain pump.
Relapse Prevention and Recovery Support
Our addictionologists continue to follow the patient after leaving treatment. If a patient completes our program successfully, we offer relapse prevention programs to support them during any type of surgery or procedure that may occur post treatment.
